My son, Hawkins, has Russ as his instructor and he has been nothing short of just amazing.  Hawkins has enjoyed him immensely.  I opted for these classes because as a beginning player, I didn't want this crazy year to deter him from pursuing it further.  Russ has fully ignited Hawkins' spark for his instrument and I couldn't be more pleased.

Russ is an accomplished musician who played trumpet at our daughter’s wedding. His rendition of “Ode to Joy” remains a highlight of her special day. Russ, also, played at my father’s funeral. The memory of him standing under a tree in the distance at the cemetery playing taps brings comfort to my heart.

I am a 66 year old retired Physician who has been studying the trumpet for over 50 years.  Russ is able to structure his teaching to help his students achieve their individual goals.   He himself plays regularly  so that teaching by example is not a problem.   Engaging himself in his students musical activities is a statement of his true interest in each students growth.  He also is punctual and cancels very few lessons, a quality that many performing teachers don’t share.

“Russ  is my go-to trumpet player should I need any special trumpet music at my church (solo, ensemble, part of the orchestra). Besides being a stellar player, he’s great to work with and I know I can count on him to be professional.“

Russ is an incredibly talented musician and then some! His lessons are educational and fun. He goes out of his way to show support for his students and is always providing a delightful balance of challenges and encouragement.

I give him three valves up!

Russ is a well-trained and experienced trumpet player.  He sat in with Permanent Vacation Band from Charleston, SC on two gigs in 2017.  We ended up being in the same city at the same time and he was an awesome addition to our band!  He knows all of the Carolina beach music and other wedding reception favorites.  Anything he doesn't know offhand, he can improvise or read the music.  He communicated and worked well with our other horn player to really sound like a section.  This is extremely important, because if multiple horn players don't work well together, it's not worth having multiple players.
